Travel Snacks: Road Trip and Robots

This coming week is a busy one.

On Wednesday afternoon I leave for a robotics competition in La Crosse, Wisconsin. On one hand, I’m super excited to be able to finally go to a competition and do my job as the media person (I decided not to go to the last competition because I’d had the flu). But on the other, high school students like to get pizza and soda and a bunch of crap that I really don’t want to have to survive on for four whole days.

I knew I’d be packing a lot of my own snacks, but I decided that lots of people probably also run into this. Eating healthy on the road or during a competition or convention is really, really hard, and it isn’t helped by the nearest restaurants being Subway and Pizza Hut. I think at least one night we’ll be going for sushi, but that still means I have to be prepared for breakfasts, three lunches and two dinners. Oh, and did I mention I can’t really bring anything perishable?

But enough of my complaining: here are the snacks!

Lärabars are some of my favorite snacks because they’re healthy, so tasty and really filling. The bottom two in this photo are also refined sugar free.

This Primal Kitchen bar is one I haven’t tried yet, but anything that has 15 grams of protein per bar and collagen as well sounds good to me. Plus dark chocolate and almonds are one of the best combinations.

And of course, I gotta have something salty, so I picked up some sesame seaweed snacks. Even though seaweed is healthy, they’re not exactly nutritious… but they’re tasty.

Last but not least, I made some chocolate cranberry granola and packed it into a mason jar. I’m considering doing a big post of a few different granola recipes, so let me know if this is one you’d want to see!

I’ll also end up bringing some fruit and maybe a cucumber or something, but most of my nutrition will be coming from protein bars and granola this week. I’ll definitely be doing insta stories and posts while I’m in Wisconsin, so follow me @sugarandsitups if you want to see what I’m doing on a daily basis when I don’t have access to a kitchen!
